Although there is no full proof cure for Schzophrenia but still it can be cured/ treated or managed with medication, self-help strategies, and supportive therapies. Schizophrenia is not like  life term imprisonment of ever worsening symptoms instead we have more control over the recovery from Schizophrenia than probably realized.

A schizophrenia treatment plan that combines medication with self-help, supportive services, and therapy is the most effective approach.

So here are certain tips or suggestions for the people who feel like and being diagnosed with Schizophrenia.

TIP 1: Get involved in treatment and self-help.

It would be great if you get involved with the treatment right from the diagnosis of Schizophrenia with the experienced mental health professionals and then yourself proceed for the chances of getting and staying well.

Successful Schizophrenia treatment depends on a number of factors. Better don’t think of the medications to be the only treatment. You should educate yourself about the illness, be in touch with your doctors and therapists, build a strong support system, take self-help measures, and stick to the  treatment plan. The self-help strategies like changing the diet, relieving stress, and seeking social support may not seem like effective tools to manage such a challenging disorder as Schizophrenia, but they do provide with the profound effect on the symptoms in their frequencies or severity, improves the ways of feelings and also increases the self-esteem.  And the more we help ourselves, the less hopelessness and helplessness is felt, and  more likely the doctor will be able to reduce the medications. Treatment works best when you, your family, and your medical team all work together.

Your attitude towards schizophrenia treatment matters

If you are getting diagnosed with Schizophrenia, then the first thing to be done is accept it and better think of its recovery and treatment instead of all the negative aspects related with Schizophrenia and its treatment. You should get associated with people who see beyond your diagnosis, to the person you really are.

Be communicative and in contact with your doctor so that the doctor can  ensure you’re getting the right type and dose of medication. Be honest and upfront about side effects, concerns, and other treatment issues.

You should not completely rely on the medicines instead pursue self-help and therapy that helps you manage the symptoms.  Self-help strategies can help you to manage symptoms and regain a sense of control over your health and well-being.

Supportive therapy can teach you how to challenge delusional beliefs, ignore voices in your head, protect against relapse, and motivate yourself to persevere with treatment and self-help. Having schizophrenia doesn’t mean you can’t work, have relationships, or experience a fulfilling life. Set meaningful life goals for yourself beyond your illness.

Getting a diagnosis

The first step towards Schizophrenia treatment is getting the correct diagnosis which is not an easy step as it seems to be. It is not an easy step to get correct diagnosis of Schizophrenia as  the symptoms of schizophrenia can resemble those caused by other mental and physical health problems.

Furthermore, people with schizophrenia may believe nothing is wrong and resist going to the doctor. Because of such issues it is always recommended to visit an experienced psychiatrist who can identify and provide treatment for Schizophrenia, rather than meeting the family doctor.

TIP 2: Get Active

As well as providing all the emotional and physical benefits, regular exercise can even help to manage symptoms of Schizophrenia. Unless one is experiencing a psychotic episode, getting physically active is something tha can be done right now to improve the focus, relieve stress, giving  more energy, helps to sleep, and makes one feel calmer, cautious and comfortable.

There is no need to be a fitness freak, instead regular exercising of the body shall maintain the rhythm of the body. Rhythmic exercise that engages both the arms and legs, such as walking, running, swimming, or dancing, can be especially effective at calming the nervous system of the human body. Instead of focusing on the thoughts, we should try to focus on how the body feels when it moves, for example, the rhythm of  breathing, or the feeling of the wind on the skin.

TIP3: Seek face to face support

Connecting face-to-face with others is the most effective way to calm the nervous system and relieve stress. Since stress can trigger psychosis and make the symptoms of schizophrenia worse, keeping it under control is extremely important.

As well as helping to relieve stress, having the support of others can make a huge difference in the outlook for schizophrenia. When people who care about you are involved in your treatment, you’re more likely to achieve independence and avoid relapse.

Ways to find support

Turn to trusted friends and family members. The near and dear ones of a person facing pychotic disorder can help him get the right and better treatment, keep themptoms under control, and function well in the community. The loved ones should be called at the times of need and help. Most people will be flattered by the request for support.

Stay involved with others. If one is able to continue with the work or education, it should be done. Otherwise one should pursue a passion, cultivate a new hobby, or volunteer to help other people, animals, or other causes which are important. As well as keeping oneself connected helping others can give a sense of purpose and boosts  the self-esteem.
