WHAT IS SCHIZOPHRENIA?
Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder in which a person interprets reality abnormally.
They are more into Hallucinations and Delusions as per which, they talk and behave in a very abnormal way and seems as if they are talking or arguing with a person who is not there in reality.
At times or depending on the severity, Schizophrenic people result in combination of hallucinations, delusions and disordered thinking and speech that impairs their daily functional life and appears to others that they are disabled to do anything in a right or correct manner as per the customs and society.
Schizophrenia is a chronic condition, requiring lifetime treatment.
The main symptoms of Schizophrenia are Hallucinations, Delusions, Disordered thinking, behavior and speech. Among the negative symptoms, we can narrate the symptom as reduced or lack of ability to function normally. For example, the person may neglect personal hygiene or appear to lack emotion (doesn’t make eye contact, doesn’t change facial expressions or speaks in a monotone). Also, the person may have lose interest in everyday activities, socially withdraw or lack the ability to experience pleasure.
WHAT IS PSYCHOSIS?
Psychosis is a syndrome or group of symptoms. Psychosis itself isn’t a disease or disorder—it’s usually a sign that something else is wrong in the body and the person’s behavior, emotions, actions, reactions etc. are all associated with that deficiency or wrongness in the body.
There are two types of symptoms of psychosis: Positive & Negative
Positive symptoms:
- Delusions: Delusions are a strong belief in something that isn’t true. A common delusion is the belief that someone is following you or watching you. Delusions means that a person is feeling the presence of another person and then he/ she talks or argues with that invisible person.
- Hallucinations: Hallucinations can be experienced with any of the five senses (hearing, sight, taste, touch, smell) in the body. The most common hallucination is hearing another voice talking that others can’t hear.
- The speech of the Psychotics becomes too much jumbled and unclear that it’s not understandable by anyone.
- People gets too much unorganized and jumbled with their daily or routine activities that it becomes very hard or difficult for them to organize or complete tasks as they don’t act or behave the way they used to.
- The movements or functions of the Psychotics goes to extremes, either too slow, awkward and rigid or are very fast.
Negative symptoms:
Negative symptoms of Psychosis are not that much visible as they may be represented as the symptoms of a mood disorder like depression or the side effects of medication. Negative symptoms are not as distinct as positive symptoms as mostly it seems like mood disorders like anxiety and depression or the side effects of any of the medication undertaken.
Psychosis is caused by the other major problems or issues in the body and then the person becomes too much concerned or worried about his problems that he gets unusual thoughts and worries which affects the total functioning of the body.
Whereas, Schizophrenia is a mental disorder in a person which makes him interpret reality abnormally. In Schizophrenia, person is not at all concerned about any other health issues, if there are in the body. Schizophrenics live in their own world of imaginary persons and voices which no one else can see or feel but for Schizophrenics they do exist, as per their perception.
The symptoms of psychosis generally depend on the cause of psychosis, so different people may have very different symptoms. Someone living with schizophrenia may experience many positive and negative symptoms while someone living with a brain injury may only experience hallucinations or delusions.
So far, we have discussed about Schizophrenia and Psychosis, so now let’s have a look at the treatment of both the issues of Schizophrenia and Psychosis. Both are treatable. We can provide with the treatment to the patients of Schizophrenia or Psychosis depending on their conditions and levels of consistency.
As per the research and analysis on many patients of Schizophrenia and Psychosis, it has been proved that medications of antipsychotics for such mental issues or problems has too much of side-effects and it worsens the life to be further lived with. So a better and helpful treatment for mentally unstable, mentally disturbed or mentally sick patients is the natural treatment of Yoga, Mediation, Counselling, Education, Stress Management, Self- Care and Social and life Skills support.
With any of the above mentioned techniques, we can help the patients understand about themselves and their issues with life and thoroughly we can make them live a good fruitful and happy life with no issues of mental disturbance/ sickness/ instability etc. Rather they can become ideals for others to recover back from any of the instabilities faced in life as life of a person is totally driven by the brain of the specific and if the main controller of the body gets affected then we can imagine how painful and worse it would become to live a normal peaceful life filled with happiness and aspirations.
